About ISDN
ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a high-speed, fully-digital technology supporting voice and data communications.
An ISDN connection to your site will usually consist of a Basic Rate Interface (BRI). Each BRI is made up of two data channels called "B Channels". One B channel gives you 64Kbps of bandwidth. Two B channels can be "bonded" together to provide you with a full 128Kbps of bandwidth. Some ISDN routers also support data compression, which can increase the available bandwidth to 512Kbps.
In Ontario, the physical ISDN service is provided by Bell Canada. Note that ISDN is only available at locations within a certain distance from a Bell switching office. When you place your order for the ISDN service, Bell will verify that it is available at your location.

Corporate Dial-Up ISDN
eXcerta's corporate dial-up ISDN packages are designed to provide a cost effective solution to companies requiring non-dedicated, high-speed Internet connectivity. The packages support dial-in configurations. These packages also provide for an allocation of IP address space, optional corporate email access with domain name support, and support for both terminal adapters and routers. Compression is supported on all connections.
Corporate Dedicated ISDN
eXcerta is Ottawa's leading provider of dedicated ISDN services. Supporting connection speeds from 64K to 512K (in 64K increments), eXcerta can service any requirement for dedicated ISDN. Features include allocation of IP address space, 24x7 monitoring of each connection, optional domain name registration, and a Usenet newsfeed. Compression is supported on all connections.
Ordering and Installation
Getting an ISDN connection to the Internet with eXcerta Communications is a simple three step process.
- Ordering the ISDN Line:
All customers will require the Microlink service from Bell Canada Microlink is available in Ottawa for app. $100 per month ($88.95 plus taxes). The install cost is app. $209. - Installation of the ISDN Line:

ISDN Hardware
Companies wishing to connect more than one machine to the internet will require the use of an ISDN router. ISDN routers are high-performance devices, capable of supporting many users simultaneously. Most routers support compression. Many routers can be configured with optional firewalls for built in security. eXcerta recommends a router for all dedicated ISDN connections for optimal performance and reliability.
